In March 1974, Lena Phillips made history as the Chicago Transit Authority’s first female motorwoman. As she tells it, she wasn’t trying to make history but just needed a job at the time. By leading the way nearly five decades ago she carved a path for hundreds of women to pursue a career that was out of reach before she stepped into the motorcar.
