Barley malt extract often appears on ingredient lists, and we often get asked whether it is suitable for a gluten free diet. In this video, Naomi, one of our dietitians, explains what it is and when it is safe for people with coeliac disease. If a product is labelled gluten free and contains barley malt extract, the product will contain no more than 20 ppm gluten and can be included in a gluten free diet. To check, look for the words ‘gluten free’ on the label or for our Crossed Grain Trademark.
